Day 10 Kilkee Cliffs
|
Kilkee Cliffs |
Today started out as usual, except it was pelting down rain when the bells summoned me to Church. Lucky I only had a few steps to go! The weather had calmed down a bit by the time I came out, but it was still pretty rugged.
The Atlantic was quite wild....
But I managed to go for a walk and today I had my coffee at Val's - very nice too!

The other nice thing about this morning was I got to talk to my brother Jim in Melbourne. We still have a few loose ends to tidy up after Terry's death, so it was lovely to be among family again - thank God for Whatsapp!!
Then the big decision - where to go today???
The weather had started to calm down a bit. so I thought I might go to Kilkee Cliffs - which many of the locals think are better than the Cliffs of Moher - and certainly less crowded!!!

So I headed south and away I went.
My first stop on the way was a bit tongue in cheek, but I stopped at Donald Trump's Hotel and Golf Course in Doonbeg. I guess I just wanted to see what it was like. The locals feel quite ambivalent about Trump.... most of them don't like what he stands for, but he does employ a lot of people at his resort, so they are grateful for that.
Here's a few pics - it's an impressive building...

So after all that excitement it was time for lunch. Kilkee was a lovely little town and the first pub I went into didn't do food at all, but the lady behind the bar recommended Stella Maris Hotel.... now there's a sign!

Home made vegetable soup and soda bread. |

After that it was only a short drive to the Cliffs and how magnificent they were. By now the sun had come out in all its glory and the colour of the sea was just resplendent, with the blue of the water and the white waves crashing against the rocks. And big bonus - there absolutely no tourists anywhere!!!!
Here's some pics - but they don't do it justice!!

Hope that's not overkill!!! I've still left half of them out!
I couldn't really capture their magnificence - and I was very careful not to go too near the edge as the wind was blowing quite strongly!
Just 2 more ...

So then it was just a quiet ramble to get home in time to sort out my photos, write my blog and head down the pub for my half pint of Smithwicks!!!
That's all done now... had a lovely half pint... then had some grilled sea bass for dinner at the Atlantic Hotel.
The Atlantic has become wild again.. it's like a a complete circle for the day!
So that's Day 10 - done and dusted! :)
