Day 4 Cliffs of Moher and Liscannor

Day 4     Cliffs of Moher and Liscannor

Cliffs of Moher

After a good night's sleep, I thought it was about time I did some tourist stuff. Especially as today was nice and fine and tomorrow and onward is only promising rain. So the closest and easiest attraction from Lahinch is the Cliffs of Moher - 15 minutes away!

To be honest, if it wasn't for you, my faithful readers, I would not have gone near the place!!! I have been there a few times before and always thought it was the bastion of tourism - and today did nothing to alter that perception!!!

I had a look at the website and saw that you could book in online - which gave you a little discount. And it also reminded me that I could take out the Seniors rate!!!! I always forget to do that!!! You have to book in for the date, and then for a time slot. I almost chose the early time, but wasn't quite ready at that stage, so took the afternoon slot - 11 am - 4 pm. Big mistake - peak hour for tourists!!!! They were like ants!!!! They were everywhere - loud and aggressive and totally entitled!!!

Did I mention it was freezing??? Today was relatively mild, back in Lahinch, but the wind was whistling up there and my eyes and nose were streaming - probably TMI (too much information!) Another reason to retreat hastily!

So I did what I had to do and then got out of there as quickly as I could.

So, here's a few mementos of my very quick visit to the Cliffs of Moher.

So, after that largely unsuccessful expedition, I was hanging out for a coffee. Even if I had wanted to do that at the Cliffs of Moher, it was impossible to get a seat in any of the cafes. So, time to move on.

There is a small town between Lahinch and the Cliffs called Liscannor. You can see it across the sea from Lahinch. Here's a map show you where these places are in relation to each other.

I thought I might find a little coffee shop there for a sandwich for lunch, but once again the tourists thwarted me as there were two very large buses parked outside the only couple of possible eating places in town. So I went down to the harbour and took some pics there.

So after all that I decided to go on to Ennistymon for some shopping as I needed some milk. And I found a lovely little bakery there that made very fresh sandwiches and I had a lovely cup of coffee in relative peace, away from all those tourists. Notice I don't classify myself as a tourist! I think of myself as a pseudo local!!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Went home and had a little rest, as you do, then decided to go for a walk along the Promenade. The tide was almost full and the Atlantic was pounding in.

Full tide at Lahinch Beach

And then is started to rain, so I was forced to take refuge in a pub!!! Thought  I would try a new one...

Half pint of Smithwicks thanks :)

Went and had my usual dinner at The Atlantic Hotel - Roast Turkey and Ham with steamed vegies!

After dinner I did the usual walk home along the beach - how lucky am I to be able to do that. The Wild Atlantic had calmed a little by now....

So that's it for another day... I think tomorrow has the forecast of rain, so I might have to have Plan B.
Let's see what tomorrow brings!!!
